GRIPS BRANCH APPRENTICESHIP SCHEME & QUALIFICATION INFORMATION
There will be only four apprenticeship places, and all applicants will be interviewed by a panel. Those panel members have yet to be decided but there will be at least two qualified grips sitting on the panel. There has already been a number of people who have put their names down, and their details are now with the Institute ready for when the process resumes.
Applications to be interviewed by the panel should be made to, Ealing Institute Of Media, Ealing & West London College, The Green, Ealing, W5 5EW. Telephone 0208-231-6055. Contact Ms Kully Madahar to be added to the list of prospective Apprentices by email at KULVINDER.MADAHAR@WLC.AC.UK
The above contact details can also be used when applying for the Grips/Crane Techs NVQ. There is also a dedicated Grips NVQ Mobile Hot line on 07588335591.
Once an initial inquiry has been made by a grip/crane tech to apply to take the qualification they will be sent an application pack from E.I.M. This consists of a TNA (training needs analysis) form, which they must complete and return with a detailed CV (not a resume of past work) to E.I.M. This is then verified and references checked then contacted to ascertain the ability of the individual applying and if they have the knowledge & understanding to begin the assessment process and progress towards completion of the qualification. If all the criteria is met then the successful applicant will be assigned an assessor who will contact them to arrange for the assessment process to begin. All the Assessors are happy to give guidance and advice to anyone wishing to apply for their qualification, although we do not get involved with the finances in any way, this is dealt with solely by Skillset & E.I.M.
A Bursary is available from Skillset which covers around 60% of the cost of the qualification, the rest being paid by the candidate. This funding is finite and only a limited number of applicants will be successful in securing a Bursary. Funding is reviewed each year and although Dennis has secured funding in the past this may not continue into the future in the present financial climate and with Government cutbacks taking place. As you know our aim is to have all the membership qualified and although we have been hugely successful in this endeavour there are still those few who have still not competed and even fewer who haven't even bothered to apply to take their NVQ thinking it would all just go away and die a death, which it obviously has NOT !
